What happens if my son writes a check but he doesn't have enough money?

When a child writes a check, look in the bottom left corner. You'll see a note that shows "New Balance". If it's negative, then your child has printed a check for more money than he/she has in the account.

If that does happen, it gives you the opportunity to talk about what happens in the real world if you "bounce" a check. Or if the Family Bankers approved his/her going below zero, you can discuss the merits and negatives of borrowing.

In either case, it's a great teaching moment. Take advantage of it :-)
